A Study on the Culture of Lentinus edodes

Abstract
Seven strains of Lentinus edodes, which are used in Korea for fruitbody cultivation, were compared with each other for their biomass productivities in shake-culture system, and among them Lentinus edodes-DMC 7 was selected and the cultural characteristics of this strain were further studied by shake-culture method. The optimal pH for this strain was 5.5 and good growth was observed in the range from pH 4.5 to 7.0. Yeast extract was the most effective nitrogen source, anal starch was more effective than glucose as a carbon source. When. cultured in high consistency media good growth was observed in upto 10% medium. This strain reached its full growth in 12 days. The best result was obtained when cultured in the medium containing glucose 8g, starch 80g, yeast extract 12g, KH©üPO©þ 0.87g, MgSO©þ¡¤7H©üO 0.5g, CaCl©ü 0.3g, FeSO©þ¡¤7H©üO 10§·, ZnSO©þ¡¤7H©üO 4§·, CuSO©þ¡¤5H©üO 1§·, MnCl©ü¡¤4H©üO 7§·, per one liter at 28¡É, 180rpm, for 12 days. Thirty-three grams of dry mycelia per liter was obtained in this case.
